Mental Health and Trauma

Acupuncture is one of the most phenomenal therapies to help with stress, anxiety, trauma, moodiness and more.

Our mental wellbeing is the foundation of how much joy and success we experience in life. It allows us to fulfil our duties to ourselves and our loved ones. Investing in mental health and emotional resilience is a gift for ourselves and our loved ones.

Maybe you feel stressed all the time or cannot fall asleep easily. Maybe you find yourself anxious and worried, and your thoughts just cannot stop racing. Maybe you lash out at those around you. Or maybe you feel numb and somewhat discouraged.

Whether it is a diagnosed condition of anxiety, depression or PTSD or “plain old stress”, or just a niggling feeling that something is not quite right, Vitality Within can help to make you feel yourself again.

Acupuncture can treat the mind/spirit by easing our fight-or-flight responses when they are not needed. It has also been shown to increase dopamine and serotonin secretion, the “feel good” neurotransmitters. The Chinese ancients saw it as balancing all 5 parts of our spirit.

Acupuncture is used for mental wellbeing across several institutions, including the US army and detox centres. It is officially endorsed by Anxiety UK. And did you know that there is even an organisation called Acupuncturists Without Borders, which goes to places of crisis to help those whose lives fell apart due to war or natural disasters?

In addition to acupuncture, I also teach my patients QiGong and Havening techniques which become tools to use on their own in times of need. QiGong helps emotions not to get stuck in the body, as the positions it fosters give positive biofeedback to the brain. The Havening technique, is a neurology-based approach developed in the USA, which balances out the Limbic systems of the brain involved, among others, in trauma processing.

Some of the conditions I see:

  • anxiety
  • trauma and PTSD
  • depression
  • mood swings
  • stress, stress and… more stress!
  • “not feeling myself”
  • disassociation
  • eating disorders

What people say

Being a naturally sceptical person, I was initially hesitant to try acupuncture but tried to remain open-minded as I searched for help for anxiety/health issues. My open-mindedness was greatly rewarded as I found [Iga’s approach] to be a huge help with my health issues and general wellbeing. Michael S, Royston
